Popular Activities in Our House

Barber Shop
This is not your typical barber shop experience. I first get my hair done which includes spraying it with water, toweling it dry, brushing it, and putting it in pig tails to ensure I look like a girl. Once my hair is looking stellar, I get a foot/leg massage which consists of rubbing wet cotton balls all over my skin. The cotton balls spread a "safety" potion that apparently covers me from injury altough I am not supposed to run for 4,567 hours after application. To top off the experience, Oliver usually takes my temperature and checks my vital signs. About 99% of the time I am sick and more drastic measures need to be taken which often include more wet cotton balls and occasionally a sip from the sippy cups.

Jail
Putting anything and anyone in jail is common place around our house. Kitty by far gets put in jail the most often but Kevin and I run a close second. Generally there are no offenses that merit being put in jail--it is more like someone yells jail time and then all of a sudden someone is being put in jail. For the kitty this generally means they try to catch her and keep her in one corner. For adults this means we have to sit in a chair and get wrapped up in blankets. They tie our feet together and attempt to tie us to the other stationary objects. They are usually nice enough and leave our hands free (and then they wonder why we escape so easy!).

Caves
Caves have been the most consistent activity in our house. We've been making caves since Samuel was about pretty small. However, the caves are taking on more complexity. Our latest had several secret entrances, multiple levels, three rooms and was especially dark inside. To make the perfect cave we use all the blankets in the house, plenty of clothes pins, a variety of chairs and all the toy baskets. Oddly, the fun seems to be in making the cave and not as much in playing in the cave. Once the cave in complete the boys have usually lost interest.

Home Alone
Samuel (and Oliver by proxy) was really into watching Home Alone this Christmas season. He thought the entire movie was really funny. On several occasions Samuel "set up" our house to catch either Kevin or I at the door. In order to catch us he would use various toys to ensure we couldn't make it inside the door. Bristle blocks were strategically placed so we step on them, little cars are arranged so we slip and various other pointy things placed to prevent our entrance. It was a little odd but Samuel thought it was great fun and started planning the minute one of us walked out the door.
