Here are the highlights from a snow-filled weekend:
- Two inches of wet snow greeted us Saturday morning. Within 20 minutes of getting out of bed the kids were sliding, throwing snowballs, and getting themselves completely wet!
- Absolutely beautiful drive Saturday morning into the higher elevations where fresh snow covered the trees and made the scenery amazing.
- Snow park fun! Upon arrival we were the only ones around to see the newly fallen snow and forge our own sledding tracks. We spent lots of time sledding, building snowpeople, building snow forts and having snowball fights.
- Hours and hours of air hockey! The kids spent most of their time downstairs playing games, crafting and watching Scooby Doo.
- The kids ranged in age from 7 to 2. They got along amazingly well with only the occasional parental intervention needed.
- MAJOR snow Sunday morning at the cabin. We woke up to about 10-12 inches of snow outside our windows. It was beautiful and provided several hours of snow play fun.
- Power outages in an all-electric house (stove top, water heater, etc) forced us to figure out the most efficient way to get our coffee fix. Luckily the power was out for only short, sporadic outings.
- Digging out the drive-way. There was so much snow we (OK, I didn't actually do any digging as I was responsible to feed all the kids) had to spend about 45 minutes shoveling snow so we could get home.
- Charades. We played a lively game of charades with the kids.
- BB gun lessons. A tradition of the cabin is to bring out the guns--a favorite activity among us pacifist Mennonites! The kids played for about 10 minutes until the adults took over! Nothing like a little guns and competition among our Menno friends.
