Happy 4th Birthday Samuel

Samuel turned 4 last week. He had his first friends party--a special Volcano & Dinosaur party. We made volcanoes, put some dinosaurs around the base, and then made the volcanoes explode! It was quite a lot of fun. Samuel did quite well as the center of attention. His friends, and more importantly for our sake, their parents, are lots of fun!

After his friends left we took a short rest and got ready for our family party later in the evening. Grandparents and cousins came over to continue in the celebration. Samuel is quite lucky to have so many people love him!

I'm not completely sure how he turned four. In so many ways it seems like just yesterday he was snuggling up in the moby wrap. And yet, in so many other ways, I really can't remember life without him. The past year Samuel has really blossomed.
He is a non-stop chatterbox and so curious about the world.

He asks why everything is the way it is and how it all works.

He is a running commentary on the world around us.

He has eyes and ears everywhere--listening, observing, and absorbing everything.

He is still fairly shy and proceeds with much caution in all new or unfamiliar situations.

He is a fabulous big brother watching out for Oliver, playing with him, talking to him, and including him in his activities.

He has a genuine concern about others and is always making sure nobody's feelings get hurt.

He still loves to cuddle and needs at least 10 minutes of snuggle time in the morning--usually still playing with and twisting my hair.

He is oh so sensitive. A simple look of disapproval stops all bad behavior.

He knows all his letters and is beginning to understand the concept of reading.

He LOVES to play office and do "important" work.

We have dedicated a large part of our house to his office where he spends many hours a day planning meetings, organizing his files, paying bills, doing his taxes, sending and receiving emails (not real ones), surfing the Internet (or so he thinks), using his adding machine, punching holes and stapling all his papers, and moving things amongst his three briefcases.

It has been such a joy to see his personality form and a little boy emerge.
We look forward to the next year of fun.
